Biography of Neil Watson
“In 1925, my pop started a little watch & jewellery repair shop – with big dreams. He used to say, “I’d love to have a shop on the corner of Brisbane Street” and in 2002, we made it happen.”
Neil Watson started working for the family business in 1979 as an apprentice watch maker. He was taught under the guidance of his father Raymond (Ray) Watson, who was introduced to the industry in the same manner by his father Robert (Bob) Watson, the creator of Watson’s Jewellers.
Neil became a partner in the family business in 1994 and purchased it outright in 2009 with his wife Caroline. Growing up very much a part of the business, he ensured that the store retained the high standards of ethics that his grandfather established in 1925, in honour of him and to fulfil his dream.
His passion for life translates to the drive he has for the business and the two things feed off each other and flourish. Neil acknowledges that without the support and input of his immediate and extended family, the business wouldn’t be where it is today.
Like all entrepreneurs he loves the freedom of running his own business and being in control of his destiny and that of his family. It allows him the space to set his own hours and to take days off when the weather is good to get outside for fishing and other hobbies.
Neil takes pride in his work and spends a lot of time himself sourcing and designing by hand the highest quality jewellery for his customers. Being a jewellery professional with years of experience, he seeks to instill each client with an in depth knowledge on finding the best possible jewellery. One of the aspects of the business he enjoys the most is by making a difference to people's lives by giving back to the community.
